i've been upgrading for years now and in my world, other than our two wifi 7 iphones all of our heavy clients (streamers) are wifi 6/5 (ax/ac) at best! the firesticks are ax but that's a support claim. protocol support should not be conflated with speed. the firesticks, i have, max gen 2, likely top out at 400; according to the built-in speed app i see ~340 but you only need 25 to stream 4k! here's the rub, anything more is a waste and i've seen it with our 4 sticks. i will say that the max gen 2 (2x2) is better than the standard stick but wifi may have nothing to do with it. a lot of hype, no substance.
bbunge's "RT-AX86U Pro or RT-AX88U Pro" recommendations are strong. i can vouch cause i had the exact same hw with one meshed. i decided to standardize on wifi 6 hw with meshed gt-ax11000 pros. why? after a lot of thought, i realized my routers were being upgraded but the clients remained the same and i really didn't notice much improvement. sure, it's overkill but it's a 3.4k sq ft home that will eventually have to manage a robotic mower. for now, i'm in connect nirvana and will likely be ok for the foreseeable. btw, i have a 1g feed from the isp which is also super overkill but spectrum made me an offer i couldn't refuse.
