Big Problems with N66U in AP mode

New Around Here
Dear community,

I have the following problems so far:

I have Dual WAN router that provides me access sto the internet Tp-LINk ER6120 - it has DHCP , NAT, load balancing - all perfectly working for wired network, no flaws.
Now i want to add Wi FI and i use Asus RT N66U for this with latest merlin firmware Build (actually this doesnt matter as problem occurs on any firmware including dd-wrt)
When i set Asus to work in Router mode with NAT i get more or less tsable 2,4 and 5 Mhz WIFI SSIDs and clients are working ok through NAT (say double NAT as it goes twice through TPLINk router too),

here is the problem that all wi fi clients can access wired devices through NAT but not vice verse (sya cant use Airplay Wired devices, no UDP broadcasts, etc)
for this i guess i need to switch Router into AP mode.
The problem when i switch to AP mode is that all wi fi clients are almost ubale to conect to wi fi (some does) speed is dramatically decreases on 2,4 band and range is lower on 5 Mhz (however 5 Mhz works ok and 2,4 is very slow)
i experimented with all settings and read all possible suggestions on how to improve WIFI speed - no help at all :(

2,4 band has lost of neighbors and usually the best i can get is 2 overlapping networks

but why all is stable in Router mode and speed is in average Ok and why AP mode almost unusable ?

could it be DCHP issues, etc.

spent one week on finding solution but absolutely out of clue:(

please help

may be i can setup routing somehow in router mode and turn off the nat having WIFI clients and LNA clients in different subnetworks ?

thanks!

unbelievable, but it really worked out! i just can't get why AP mode which has less extras is failing ... anyway as long as it works i'll be happy :)

My RT-N66U works fine in AP mode.

The only advice I can give you:

1. Update to latest firmware
2. After the update, reset Asus router to factory default
3. Connect the Ethernet cable coming from your main router to the Asus WAN port (Internet port). Put it in "AP Mode" with the wizard.

Those are the steps that I followed and it works fine.

jlake,

this was the main problem - no matter of firmware (as i mentioned i tried several of them including dd-wrt), in AP Mode 2,4 hz become very weak and stations unable to connect almost at all, or when connected they can't connect to internet at all. and 5 Mhz works more or less fine and fast. i tried almost all modes and adjustments.

For best results, try stock Asus firmware .276. After you flash .276, you must reset the router to factory defaults.

Then use inSSIDer to help you find best 2.4 ghz channel. Use 20 MHz only (for 2.4 ghz).
