Browser Internet Connection Issues RT-N66U

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, apologies in advance if not.

So I have an interesting issue, can't really figure it out. Running Merlin FW 380.58, net card Intel CT1000 desktop adapter.

Past few days when I open a browser I get can not connect to internet. Skype does not connect either. However Steam/steam friends does. I also have no issue connecting to my synology NAS and copying stuff back and forth to my PC and NAS has no issue connecting to internet to update DSM. When I am in Merlins FW tools and run a test it pings google with 0 packet loss, but still a browser won't connect to the internet. I ran scans with malwarebytes and nothing. Rebooted router and works again, but just doesn't seem as fast as it did previously a few days ago, even though speedtest is giving me my rated ISP connection speed. So since this isn't my area of expertise I'm kinda looking for some help in trouble shooting.

Thanks

You are in the right place...getting the right answer is another story:confused:. What OS and browser are you using?

I am guessing that you connect to your ISP with some kind of a modem and that your router is connected to it by ethernet. If your modem has wireless, use ethernet anyhow. You state that you can access Merlin's Firmware Tools menu, so you can access router from your PC. Can you ping the modem from your Desktop and/or router? Does your modem have some kind of an interface page that you can access, and can you reach it from the PC through the router? Sometimes the router and modem don't talk to each other and have to be rebooted so that the modem will recognize the MAC of the router. If you connect your Desktop directly to the modem, is all well (you will need to reboot modem and PC in that order for the MAC address issue)?

You say that since rebooting router, all is happy but you think it is slow...on what do you base that?

In addition to what wh7qq said; it sounds like it could be a DNS or proxy issue.

What external DNS servers are you using? Have you changed them recently? Try using Google's instead (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4).

Are you using any sort of web proxy, i.e. ad-blocking, etc.?
