Buffalo Terastation 5400 with BackupExec

Dear All,

I would like to seek your advice on how can i set my 60 users office for backup solution with title mentioned model NAS with Symantec Backup Exec 2012. Basically I have one HP server with enough space to share all users' shared data. NAS is only used for backup data storage on it. So I need to design such a way to keep 2 months data. Any advice or idea? Thanks guys.

if you've already purchased that NAS, well OK. It should have come with GOOD backup utilities in its OS.

Opinion: If you haven't purchased, I recommend looking only at Synology and QNAP.

In all cases, the backup utilities in the NAS OS should be used. They run on the NAS and target USB3, eSATA, or via the LAN, rsync, WEBDAV, Amazon S3 or others.

The NASes usually come with a desktop PC program to copy/backup folders on the desktop computers' disks - for those people that do not make a habit of using the NAS shares (ill-advised).

Hi Stevech, Thanks a lot for your suggestion and advice. NAS been purchased and we will look into those model that you recommend next time. Basically backup exec and NAS mapped drive should work, right?

I don't know, never having owned a Buffalo NAS, by choice.

Just be sure to have a big USB3 or eSATA drive to backup the NAS. No matter the brand.
