Building NAS on HP T5700 and FreeNAS advice needed

AlterEgo

New Around Here
Hello All,

As guided in the sticky article on the forum, I am planning to buy and make a NAS on HP T5700 mainly for media streaming over a 100Mbps wired network to NMT and other devices (media renderers).

I have some queries and would appreciate the responses:

1. Is it possible to install the standard IDE 2.5" HDD Inside the t5700. If any additional connector/device/cable is needed then please mention. Just wanted to know whether it accepts the standard 40-pin IDE cable and HDD or some special connector is needed to make it accept the hard disk. Is there a spare power connector inside, which can be used to supply power to the IDE HDD.

2. Is it possible to install standard Windows XP on HDD with a configuration of 192MB rom 256MB Dimm memory.

3. Does it requires any special type of memory or any available standard DIMM can be used to upgrade the memoey, upto a max of 512 MB.

4. Is the USB 1.1 speedy enough to stream hi-def video media to other devices on the network. Mainly 720p or 1080p MKV video media.

5. If not then is it possible to install a standard USB 2.0 PCI add-on card to T5700.

6. I am thinking of being able to dual-boot it into either Windows XP or FreeNAS, is it a possibility anyone else has tried so far.

7. Last but very important is FreeNAS compatible with latest DLNA standards, especially for streaming to NMT and PS3.

Would appreciate all the expert guidance I can get.
