Hi.

Can anyone recommend a good RAID card or a good brand to go with?

I am shopping around and I am looking for something that is reliable and possible expandable.

Please let met know if anyone has a good experience( or bad experience) with any particular brand.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi,
I am using LSI MEGARAID SAS8344ELP ( 4 internal and 4 external ports ) and LSI MEGARAID SAS8888ELP ( 8 internal or 8 external ports ). Nothing to complain about.
The 8888 is the better one, but then it is a lot more expensive.
I got both mine off ebay. I notice that there is a MEGARAID SAS8308ELP ( that's 8 internal ports ) on ebay for $147 at the moment.

Thanks everyone for such great info. When you say external ports, do you mean that you can connect a USB external hard drive to the array?

Thanks.

Armorone,

You didn't wether sata II or sas, pci or X etc.

I like this sata ii 8 port pci card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815121009

this sata ii 4 port pci http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124008

I use them only in JBOD and let zfs do the rest. So be sure to check software driver compatibility with the intended OS

I have heard good things about this card but have not tried it yet with solaris

hope that helps
