Can I Install Merlin Remotely?

My previous thread, with the same name, was closed without explanation.

The question was can I remotely flash router from stock to Merlin.

The use case was I have an RT-AC68U at my moms and had been running stock because I had no real need for any of the Merlin tweaks until he implemented DoT. I wanted to know if I could flash to Merlin without going there. Most who responded to the previous thread seemed to think it wouldn't be possible or at least require a power cycle.

Well New Years Day rolled around and I decided to give it a shot... if it failed, I had the time to go and resolve it. The remote router was running 3.0.0.4.385.10000 and I was successfully able to flash it to 384.14_2 over the internet without a need for a reset or power cycle.

I was also able to activate DoT (I think) using the AdGuard server (I think). Not sure how to confirm other than it seems to be working.

Thanks to all those who responded and Happy New Year!

Update: "Your router is running low on NVRAM" so perhaps a factory reset will be required at some point.

this is an old (somehow lost and now reactivated) feature of newest Merlin to warn as soon as you are low on free NVRAM.
Factory reset and manual setting should be done as soon as possible - dont load old config.
And never mention whatever other routers you have which are not relevant with this original RT-AC68U!

Glad it worked out for you. Surprised too. Do you remember what version of stock firmware it was running before you flashed it with Merlin? Might test this out sometime.

I've cleaned up the posts that are reviving the back-and-forth that prompted me to close the other thread. I'm now also closing this one since the problem has been solved.
