Can I remove a RAID 5 disk and run it somewhere else for error testing?

New Around Here
Hi,

I was wondering if taking out a drive from a RAID 5 NAS and putting it in my desktop to access S.M.A.R.T info will affect its contents and in turn cause the NAS to reject it when put back?

Doesn't matter what happens to its contents..just like if a drive failed in a RAID 1 or RAID 5 array...and you replaced it with a brand new one out of the box.

When you remove it, the existing volume will run in degraded mode...but will continue to run with your data intact. Once you put a drive back in, it will rebuild and be up to 100% in due time.
