Can't remote manage router after enabling AiCloud?

I had remote access working just fine - could log into my 68U from work or wherever using DDNs through asuscomm.

Today I enabled AiCloud for the first time and was able to read/write to the USB drive attached to my router. Doing so requires me to use a different port number (I think they default to 443) than the port to hit the admin login. No biggee, it worked.

A little later I tried to log back in to my router admin page to shut off the AiCloud and get this notice:

Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC68U.
To access the settings of RT-AC68U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number.

Nothing happens and I can't log in! What's going on?

Try a hard reboot (pull the power plug, wait a minute or two and plug it back in).

Crap. That did not work.

IP address has not changed. I can ping it on the usual 192.168.1.1

In fact, I can still log in to the AiCloud part which hits the same DDNS address except with a different port number. Somehow this is what has created the problem. Hopefully it did not disable the other port used to access the admin console.

It finally started working. I am not sure why it stopped, or why it started again.

My theory is it has something to do with Asus's DDNS service. Originally it took a day or so for my DDNS address (mySID.asuscomm.com) to become active even though nothing in the setup advises you it won't work for awhile. Again, just my theory that it took them a bit of time for it to become enabled. Then today, when I enabled the AiCloud, there may have been an update to my DDNS address when it addded/enabled the additional port that gives access to the AiCloud storage (my USB drive). I am not 100% sure about this last part...just adding a port to the end would only make it a difference when it attempted to hit the port at my end so not any update to their DDNS entry... Crap, I don't know. Just seems odd there was a half day delay and suddently it starts working again. I previously repowered the router and that didn't make a difference.

Thankfully I ignored the Asus tech reps via chat who both told me to hard reset the router and set everything back up.

DNS changes take a while to propagate out, so this is a reasonable outcome...

I thought so too, but then all AiCloud is doing is letting me add the 443 port to the end of my URL. I don't thing adding that constitutes a DNS change does it?
