Changing (Clashing) IP Address of Router/Modem

Hi Team
Finally making that switch from Grandfathered Static IP contract to cheaper & faster dynamic IP broadband with Virgin Media

My setup is VM Router in Modem mode behind my Asus Router

They sent me a new VM Router which I plan to put into Modem mode again

Small point:
The Asus Router is 192.168.0.1
The old/current VM Modem 192.168.100.1
So no clash accessing the settings

The new VM Kit is also 192.168.0.1
So am I right in thinking what I need to do is
Connect PC directly to VM Router using the default IP address (disconnected from Asus)
Access settings to change to modem mode and at same time change its IP address to something else?
Would it be okay to use the same IP as old VM ie 192.168.100.1 or does it have to be in the 0.x range?

Then I can connect it all back up, be able to log into Asus & VM from the PC and then I just change the Asus WAN over to Dynamic leaving all my LAN settings and DHCP etc intact?

Most likely the new modem in bridge mode will have management interface on the same 192.168.100.1 address. Check the manual to confirm. The same address is used by different manufacturers, not specific to VM gateways.

Aaah great thank you
I didnt realise this and checking with Uncle Google yes it seems putting it in Modem Mode means you access with the other address (as per screenshot)

Regarding the other points:
Am I correct in assuming 1st step is disconnect the Asus and connect VM directly to PC and access via the "router" IP address etc as above?

If the LAN IPs are the same you have to switch this new VM gateway to Bridge Mode before connecting your ASUS router to it. You can do it over wireless or wired, whatever is easier for you. In general avoid 192.168.0.1 for your own equipment LAN IP since it's commonly used by many manufacturers and creates inconveniences like the one you have how. Newer ASUS routers use 192.168.50.1 as default LAN IP.

Aha now that I think about it yes the Asus was on 50.1
But thats all been set and (internal) IPs all set for kit on this range so dont plan to revisit anything downstream of the Asus 😀
