Changing Login Name from "admin" to custom one.

Quidagis

New Around Here
I switched (my RT AC-3200) from Tomato to Asuswrt Merlin. The system's been running great so far. One thing though, I forgot to change the login name, is it possible to change it now that the system has been fully setup?

Steps to change it... just change the name in Administration-System?

What will happen to JFFS files/directories ownership? Do I have to change manually from command line?

Thanks.

Just change it in the GUI. The files and directories will be OK because they're actually owned by UID 0 and GID 0, "admin" is just the human-readable alias.

The only thing I can think of that you might need to check is the accounts used for shared USB folders. I think people have had permissions problems with those so it might be simpler to reformat any shared disks and start again with those.

I changed mine in the Administration tab and that was all there was to it.

I just changed the login name. No issues, it took care of JFFS ownerships automatically, and a couple other partitions (ENTWARE and LOGGING) on USB attached disk also.

Changed, checked, rebooted, rechecked... and voilà, presto, listo.

Thank you guys!

Thanks for the feedback. And I forgot to mention: welcome to the forum. Don’t hesitate to came back with any other questions.

I guess APs and Repeaters can be changed the same way. What about AiMesh nodes? Will the parent change them? Or do they need to be reset and re-paired?
