New Around Here
Hi
First thanks for all those great posts here.
I found this forum some days ago, when I wanted to find some opinions on DS1010+ and TS.659Pro+.
Now I have sent some days reading and now i'm even more torn between some great products.
I'm looking for a NAS to be used mainly as the last chain in a backup solution.
We have a backupserver backing up all servers to disks and we want to replace an old tape robot with a disk based solution. The backup server will use the NAS as deduplicated storage. I would like to have 5-7 disks.
I plan on using the NAS mainly as a iSCSI target, but might also use a file share for doing some adhoc backup's directely.
Performance is of course important but reliability is even more important.
I have to be able to add an another NAS in another location (maybe a smaller model) to sync data or snapshots to.
I would also like to have the option to migrate data to the cloud. Maybe to Amazon. But that's more of a nice to have.
Now I have looked DS-1010+. It has only 5 slots but can be expanded. But I can't figure out the performance of the expansion. I think Synology tends to make good products but I had some bad expriences back in the DS-409 days.
The DS1010+ has the best price point here.
Then there is QNAP 659Pro+. I can't say I have much to say against it, except it seem lack some performance.
Now there is also the Cisco model with better warranty and Syslog/radius. I don't ned radius, but I would like to have syslog. I could suspect that to show up in future qnap firmwares.
I have never worked with Thecus or ReadyNAS myself, but N7700Pro would fit within my budget and seems to give the best performance around. The bundled Acronis could also be usefull. But as I said I do not have experience with it and I am a bit worried about support and reliability.
Netgear ReadyNas Pro also looks fine, but I can't see if I really get value for it's extra price.
Can anyone help me make my choice?
