Copy photos to & fro from iOS devices: RT-AC68U

Hi All - Is there a way setup copying of photos to & from iOS devices to the USB storage connected to Asus RT-AC68U?

Assuming you have setup a Samba Share under USB Application then just copy and paste like you would with any other file.

IIRC iOS devices show up as a camera-type device when connected to a PC.

Actually my use case is: I need the ability to copy from/to the USB storage on the ASUS router, from any of my IOS devices wirelessly.

Almost certainly you're aware of it, but just in case... you know you can share photos between iOS devices without any active intervention by turning photos on in iCloud Storage It seems to take a while to sync (hours?, which is probably why you want to use the usb storage), but if you weren't aware of it, it'd suffice till you figure out how to do via the usb device.

Yes I am aware of iCloud storage. I don't want to use iCloud/ASUSCloudStorage because of their storage size limitations (you have to pay to get more than 5GB) and the time to sync back & forth.

I have 5 wireless tablets/phones (mix of iOS & Android) and looking for an easy way to transfer photos b/w them and use the ASUS USB storage as the central storage - all in my LAN wireless environment (I don't want to access any of them on WAN / remotely)

Understood. What about Colin's idea? The "VLC for iOS" app works with SMB. As an example, I have a Humaz Freesat box and a Humax Foxsat box on my network. And VLC for iOS lets me watch videos or see photos on them via SMB And I imagine there's a VLC for Android app for your Apple-wannabe devices. MoliPayer is an even better app - my preferred multimedia player - and allows SMB sharing; it gets consistently good App Store reviews.

On reflection, if your photos are valuable, then you really should have remote backup. The extra storage with iCloud would cost 79pence/$1 a month? And there's no headache setting it up. Dropbox or Google Drive would also transfer and backup the photos. Put remote backup into the equation, and the peace of mind it delivers should there be a domestic catastrophe, and the cost - the equivalent of 5 or 6 cups of coffee a year, just isn't a consideration.

Thank you @martinr. I didn't realize the existence of VLC app on iOS. I will certainly check it out.
You make a good point about remote backup. Turns out I do have Amazon Cloud as my online storage solution that has unlimited allowance for photos.

Excellent. That app seems to be called VLC for Mobile now, in the App Store , and there still seem to be some problems with it; it's only just included SMB support. Also do look at MoliHD; you won't necessarily need any of the in-app modest purchases.

Anyway, I'm pleased you have found a solution that addresses your problem and gives you more into the bargain, not least of which is 6 'free' cups of coffee a year.
