Daily Broadband Slowdown - It was the NAS!

New Around Here
Hello. I've got a Maxtor Central Axis NAS with 2T. For the past week or so, my Verizon DSL broadband speed was dropping off from about 2000 kbps to around 200 to 300 kbps, sometimes dropping to zero.
This was happening every day at about 6:00 pm. I have no backups, scans, or any other scheduled events else that I know of set to start at that time.
Thinking Verizon was up to something, I spent several hours with tech support last night. we went through the usual (annoying) procedures, and finally got the point that the tech decided to escalate the trouble ticket.
Just as we were about to hang up I decided to try turning off the NAS and TA DA! Full broadband speed was back. I turned off web access on the NAS when I turned it back on, but have to wait 'till tonight if the network slows down again.

Has anyone had a similar experience?
