The specs listed on SBF is wrong, the router doesn't have 512mb of ram, D-link said ram is 256mb of ram.

bad hardware as in the parts other than the main chips itself, like how it is designed by hardware (components used, motherboard design, etc). Some actions by dlink have also been against security, just search the forum to see yourself. Even i have seen first hand how vulnerable dlink routers are. They even store your passwords as plaintext. They even leaked their firmware keys.

All routers come with the same specs of hardware so you wont see a BCM4709A0 with 512MB or 1GB of ram. Its why i prefer higher end routers as they have replaceable ram and usually come with better hardware.

While dlink does update their libraries i am still not convinced that new dlink routers are secure.

thats really bad, but its a good thing i dont use consumer routers as routers. i do know that at one point mikrotik did store passwords as plaintext and winbox being their weak link but they fixed all that As long as you still arent using routerOS 3 . The consumer brands being in business way longer with way more resources still havent fixed it even though they use linux as a base. The issue with dlink isnt just about storing passwords as text but also being able to retrieve them without any sort of authentication like using a url link on the router.

What really bothers me is that all these brands being an alternative to what ISPs offer cant do any better than them and yet router prices just keep increasing.
