Alright, well I've been reading a bit more, and I've changed my plans slightly. I think I'm just gonna go with software RAID within Linux, as this seems to be the easiest and cheapest route, and apparently performs just fine. Still deciding which RAID configuration I'm going with, but I have a quick question.
It's my understanding that the OS can't be installed on the RAID array if you use software RAID within Linux. First off, is this true? If so, how important is I/O Performance for the drive the OS is on? Will having the OS installed on a slower drive negatively impact my performance, or is it basically just the storage drives themselves?
Thanks,
- Jesse
