Do I need to purchase a cradlepoint?

Hello all this is my first post and seeing if any can help (merlin thanks for all your instance response on twitter.). I picked up first an N66U then saw for a couple more bucks I could get an AC66U. I just purchased a house in a very busy area and ATT DSLAMs are capped (because of dumb planning for Uverse and Fiber to curb) and cable boxes stop in my neighborhood about 200ft outside of business lines being ran (underground utilities and limitation to business line). I have no broadband so I figured I would try a company named millenicom which offers unlimited wireless data, So I opted to picked up the Asus because if the usb modem integration and just put my Linksys EA4500 (rock solid) to the side. But I cannot for the life of me get it to work with my current modem (3G Sprint U301 Franklin Wireless) now I am opting the 4G data modem (Franklin U770). According to the Asus live chat (horrid sorry) it should work by switching to USA -> Sprint and all defaults should work. Well the modem powers up via USB but router doesn't see it. I have tried all Asus Firmwares and a good bit of Merlin's Magic to no avail. So I switched the modem at the local store for another one just in case... Still no avail is there anything I can do to enable this or should I just invest in a cradlepoint? Reason I ask is my profession is IT and no broadband has cost me a job in this short 3 month time span and may hinder my choices for employment now. Thanks all for your help I am just trying to figure this out.

Cradlepoint is pretty good with the USB Dongles - before you spend, I would contact their sales/support and confirm if they have support for your USB device.

FWIW - the Franklin U770 is a qualcomm based device for both 3G and LTE, and it has a broadcom Wimax nic as well. That could also be part of your problem, as things get a bit odd there - checking around the google - this is one of those devices that the linux community doesn't seem to be powerfully compelled to support...

Asuswrt does have better support than pure open-source Linux for Broadcom devices however, as it includes a closed-source driver for Broadcom Wimax devices. Not sure what specific models it supports however.

CDMA and LTE: Qualcomm MDM9615
WiMAX: Broadcom BC350L

If it were CDMA/LTE only - good chance for support, as the Qualcomm baseband has been supported for a long time -

That the U770 a limited distribution hybrid device for a specific carrier, not likely it'll get support unless someone gets an itch to do a full-on driver/connection manager for it.

Thanks

As far as linux support goes (I know random) my Fedora and Ubuntu distros have no problem seeing it automatically. And Cradlepoint does support it per Millenicom trying to sell me the MBR series.

Checked Cradlepoint's WWW support site - as the gentleman earlier mentioned, their MBR routers do support the U770.

Cradlepoint has the relationships with the OEM's and the chipset vendors, so if anyone could do it, they would be the one...

I've worked with them on a couple of projects - sharp bunch over there and really good people. They do all their own HW/SW/Integration work in-house, and strongly recommended for vertical business critical applications over 3G/4G.

Thx everyone

Depending on when the new usb modem arrives I will have to see what happens and if I return the AC66U. I must have a solid connection for the at home tech position I may take.

It works with Franklin U770 :)

Hey Merlin I am using the .354 version should I revert to the .270 version for better stability with USB (from what I am interpreting). If so which one of your .270 builds?

Latest non beta, which would be 270.26b.

Is there an network disconnect on USB modems that occurs often? Just trying to troubleshoot because it works fantastic then I have to remove and reinstall and all is well.
