Does HP N54L micro server support high definition real time transcoding?

New Around Here
Hi,

I recently have looked into this server and feel it is quite a good choice for home nas/server as it is reasonably cheap, the case looks good and is small and has low power consumption.

I almost decided to go for it and then just realized there is only one thing I missed out is that its CPU may not be "strong" enough to support real time transcoding at 1080P? I look at the spec and it says its CPU is AMD Turion II, all I know is that this CPU is pretty old and has been out for a while.

Can any of you who purchased this server or have similar experience give me some advices?

Thanks

Depends on the transcoding app. But consensus from a little research says you want at least a dual core CPU at around 3GHz or higher

The CPU isn't powerful enough for real time transcoding.

If you throw a low end graphics card into the server then you can play AVI files through VLC, but that's about all.

The G7 Microserver is designed to be cheap, low power, high storage. Good transcoding ability is incompatible with low cost/low power.

The G8s will be more powerful when they are available, but they will also be more expensive.

can you transcode in batches, non-real time, then shut off that power-hungry PC (same as you probably use for general desktop purposes)?
