Does Merlin fw unlock regional wifi channel restrictions?

Hi,
If I was to buy an Asus RT-AC5300 in UK and flash it with Merlin firmware, would I be able to select channels such as 157 on the 5ghz band? Also does the UK/EU version of the AC5300 come with DFS channels such as 120?
Cheers

Hi,

The regional restrictions are a legal requirement and legal firmware never unlocks legal restrictions - the keyword here is "legal" (in case you did not spot it!) - you ask for something illegal from Merlin...

Let me re-phrase the question: if I flash any Asus router with Merlin, does the Merlin fw offer a drop down 'country location' menu in wifi channel selection so that the LEGAL channels for that country can be used based on the country selection? This can be done on my Linksys EA8500 running DD-WRT firmware. This is useful for example if you purchase a router in UK for use in USA or vice-versa.

Also I *think* the RT-AC5300 can be flashed with DD-WRT, does this mean you can change the wifi channel region? Or have Asus locked this on the hardware level?

OK. The answer is simple: The country restrictions are in the CFE (kind of BIOS) hard coded and are not overwritten by Merlins firmware (again: for legal reasons).
