DS1515 vs DS1515+

Seriously look at the specs of the DS1515 and DS1515+

The DS1515 also has hardware encryption built-in.

If not for Plex transcoding...why buy the 1515+ ?

- Not expandable ram
- Not certified for vmware
- Less shares etc (though hard to imagine anyone going over the limit)
- not DLNA certified (but complient?)
- Don't know about Docker (no new release notes that would include this model)?

I elected to not use encryption in the NAS. Due to risk of unrecoverable data.
I prefer to use SecureHome Software - a virtual drive that, for me, is a 1GB file with all my private info init (financial, tax, medical, ...).
I simply copy that file as any other, in the 3 kinds of media backups.

transcoding... isn't that best done by a Roku or some such, or in batches on a super fast PC?

Transcoding for Plex is really best done by something with more HP than a home Synology. I have a Mac mini that does my Transcoding and the 1415+ duties are reserved to SABnzbd/ CouchPotato/Sick-Beard and other backup NAS stuff.

I picked up the 1515+ many months ago. Upgraded the ram and swapped out the cooling fans for ultra-quiet and cooler Scythe Ninjas. Couldn't be happier with it.

First of all, apologies for the thread necromancy, but some of these points had me concerned. I'm strongly considering the 1515+ and this post (if I'm reading it right), implies that it:
- Will not allow for a RAM upgrade
- is not certified for VMWare, etc.

Am I reading this correctly? I thought sure I saw the 1515+ could accept a RAM upgrade (albeit a small one: 2G -> 6G) and I was pretty sure it was VMWare certified as well?

It's been a while, but I believe the limitations were for the 1515 without +.

Also was just comparing specs online, the situation could have changed in the past year.

I just bought a DS1515+ with 2x8GB 16GB SODIMM Kit. I should have it by this weekend!!

Also, it looks like from the specs that the DS1515 is a 32-bit quad-core processor (Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-314) versus the Intel Atom 64-bit 2.4GHz processor in the DS1515+. This would limit the ability of the DS1515 to go beyond 3GB of RAM.
