Edimax BR6478-AC and Intel 7260AC - How to use AC mode?

New Around Here
Hello everyone,

I'm brand new to these forums, but it seems like everyone is quite knowledgeable. I recently purchased an Edimax BR6478-AC wireless router to use with the Intel Wireless 7260AC card in my computer, but I can't seem to get them to use the AC protocol.

I'm not sure if it's a problem on the router's end or on my laptop's end, but it's driving me nuts.

I tried to contact Edimax support and they responded with a question and never responded to my answer, and I thought maybe somebody here could help.

When connected using the 5GHz band of the router, I can see my computer is connected as a client in the web interface, but the 802.11 PhyMode column says "11n". I can also confirm from the computer that my max bitrate with the router is 300Mbps.

Edimax support had asked me to confirm that the Channel Width setting was set to 20/40/80 MHz -- which it is, but that does not seem to help.

My computer is also the only client on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.

I've been reading up a lot about networking in the last week to see if I could figure out where I might be going wrong, but haven't found anything yet.

If anyone can point me in the right direction to switching the protocol that actually gets used, I'd be forever in your debt.

Thank you!

I have a similar case just like yours. Edimax tech support let me upgrade firmware to "v1.12" than Everything is working very well now.

I will suggestion you to call or email them for assistance.

Thanks for responding. I've upgraded to version 1.14 hoping that would do it but no dice.

I'll probably try their customer support again next week.

Just an update to this story for anyone with similar issues (unlikely).

It turns out that I had the Intel 7260-N and not the 7260-AC. This was a mistake from manufacturers end -- apparently the box of Intel wireless cards was mislabeled and they accidentally put this one into my computer before realizing they were mislabeled. I have the pepper card on its way now.

I hadn't realized that the 7260 comes in both N and AC variants!

Anyway, it will hopefully work one I put that card in
