Editing /etc/motd in AC56U

Hi I want to edit my /etc/motd in my router just for fun when I'm using Telnet away from home. The problem is the /etc is a read-only filesystem. How can I make changes in that filesystem?

You can't, as this is in the read-only flash. Best way is to mount bind a replacement file on top of it.

mount -o bind /jffs/mymotd /etc/motd

(or any location other than /jffs/ where you put the replacement file, such as a USB disk)

This however won't survive reboots, and you will need a custom firmware to make it reapply at boot time through a user script.

I thought it just simple as configuring a Cisco router. Well going all through those when I need a reboot would be a pain.
