Enable FTP server without USB drive attached...

If one does this, what directory do you end up in when you FTP to the router?

It will enable access to a nonexistend mounted usb drive for the user admin.
As soon as you plug in a device, full access will be granted to that drive.

It's certainly not imaginary.

If you enable FTP and then connect to the router, you're in a directory.

PWD returns "/".

ls -al returns no files or folders however.

I don't mean you don't see it - it's imaginary in the sense that it is only logical and not a physical 'directory'.

So the logical directory isn't aliased to a physical directory somewhere?

I never tried it but what would happen if I did a binary put? Where would the file end up?

If you try it; you'll see that no commands are available to create a new file or folder.

And trying to copy an existing one doesn't work either.

The directory is not real, it is a placeholder for a physical device that is not attached.

I'm trying to upload scripts that I wrote to /jffs/scripts.

I think I'll just attach a 4GB USB pen drive and put them on there and then copy them over with telnet/SSH.

Take a look at WinSCP (make sure you use SCP mode, and that you have SSH enabled on the router).

I'd need an OS X equivalent, I'm not using Windows.
