Gigabit NAS for simple use

Hey everyone.
Right now I have a WD My Book World (white lights) with a 1TB HD and I use it for torrent downloads and some streaming to my WDTV (actually I rarely do it).
What I miss is a gigabit connection. On a 100Mbps I can only get around 10MB/s, which sux to transfer big files.
I know I can get a WD My Book Live, which has gigabit ethernet. But is there any other NAS with similar price that would let me download torrents (I use Transmission on my NAS) for a similar price?
I googled some models I found on the charts here, but some are really expensive and others I couldn't find out if I can install a good torrent software on it.

QNAP or Synology, 2 bay.
I have one, with two drives. Independent volumes. One is a copy of the other, but not RAID, so if I oops-delete a file I can get it back. Or of the file system get corrupt on one, there's a copy on the other.

In any NAS, you should have a USB3/eSATA external drive to do periodic backups. Protects from electronics failures, and if done right, protects from theft of NAS.

The problem is that any QNAP NAS, without disks, costs more than a 2TB WD My Book Live.
That's why I asked for a NAS with similar price, comparing to WDs.
It's probably an overkill for me.

If price is the issue, then stick with the WD at 100Mbps. Only when you are moving big files will you need exceed the NAS' 100Mbps capability.

Be sure you have a 100% backup of that NAS. Any NAS will fail, sooner or later.

Someday, you can move the 2TB drive in the WD to a new NAS - if you want the features in a mid-range NAS like the DS212j ($185).

Money is not the real issue. I just don't know if it's really necessary to buy an expensive NAS, like QNAP or Sinology, if I can buy a WD for cheaper.
Maybe if I start using the NAS for all my storage. Then a good one, with two big drives (one for backup) would be a good ideia.
Also I could remove one HDD from my computer and keep only the SSD. That would be good.

Just to give you an idea... I'm full gigabit, on everything network related I own.

I have a WD Mybook World Edition ll that is 'supposedly' gigabit.

The fastest transfer I get is

Write - 14 MB/s
Read - 35-40 MB/s

Both are far from giga speeds. Also, see this article, which is on par with my numbers.

Hi,
Is WD true NAS in a sense? Can it do things like QNAP or Synology NAS can? We pay for
features, capabilities not for hardware(which we can even build one easily).
