Good Wireless N router to use as an access point?

Hi All. I'm very new to all of this so if I'm not making sense please let me know. Basically im looking to upgrade my home network that is very outdated. I have just bought an Asus AC66u to replace my main router. I also have an old netgear wgr614 as an access point that I'm looking to upgrade now. I will be connecting the access point with Netgear AV500 adaptors as it will be far from my main router. Can anyone one recommend a fairly cheap but good router that has good range so I can use it as an AP. Preferably noob proof. Thank you and sorry if this has been asked before.

I had an older WiFi router re-purposed as an access point. Worked, but for some reason it had to be rebooted ever 5 days or so. No matter what I did in its config.

Now I have a $35 ASUS RT-N12, which has an AP mode. No problems.

Thanks for the reply. Will have a look at it. Don't mind spending 100 -150$ on a good router that will last me for a while if you have anymore recommendations. Maybe a dual band one.

an AP improves coverage and speed at some distance from a sole-router.
Dual band is a different focus... and it makes sense only if:
1) your client devices support dual-band
2) you really need the higher speed potential of 5.8GHz for WiFi (handheld?) devices.

Not often needed in residential.

I'm in the same boat but don't want to spend above $100, as I'm waiting for AC to become the norm and hopefully by then there will be plenty with OpenWRT/DDWRT support.

If I was to spend the $$ now i thing the best out there is the Asus routers (AC66u) in terms of range and performance. Personally I would stay away from Cisco/Linksys right now as the seem pricey yet the performance is okay.

I'm testing the Linksys EA2700 right now and it will most likely will go back and I have the TP Link WDR3600 on order. One of these will be my wifi AP and i think it will be the TP Link.
