Guest Network for 2.4 MHz IoT Stuff?

I have read that some people advocate putting IoT stuff on a wifi "guest" network. I originally understood this to be for security reasons.

But if I am having connectivity issues perhaps caused (or made worse) by having too many IoT devices on the main, 2.4 GHz wifi of my GS-AX3000, would it make any difference at all if I moved some to a "guest" network on the same router?

Also, I understand that the "guest" network prohibits those devices from "seeing" the main LAN devices. But are guest network devices on the same subnet and can main LAN devices communicate with them?

Thanks

too many IoT devices

They will be served by the same physical 2.4GHz radio. Guest Network is just a logical interface. Most home routers support limited number of clients per radio. Yours is an entry-level model, perhaps close 30 clients. Too many clients even mostly inactive may cause clients disconnecting and reconnecting.

can main LAN devices communicate with them?

No. In this case you have to control them through Internet. For router models with custom firmware available (Asuswrt-Merlin) there are options. Unfortunately, your model is not supported.

Thanks. So that won't work/help me at all.

You can use the other router you have (mentioned in another thread) as dedicated to some of the IoTs access point. Run it on different 2.4GHz channel. The clients connected to it will show as wired to your main router.
