HELP! needed on RT-N66U

wrj54

New Around Here
Everything was working fine on my RT-N66U but I tried to another router. Long story short, I'm back to my Asus. My problem is I can no longer access my Asus router via 192.168.1.1 (using Chrome, IE or Oprah browsers) from my Windows 10 64b laptop (wired or wireless) or Desktop (wired). The error I get is:
This site can’t be reached
The connection was reset.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

However, I can access it find using the Asus app on either my Android phone or tablet. I tried the Asus app on my Windows machines and get "Login Failed: The connection with the server was reset". BTW, in that app I'm using port 80.

I did a reset on the router and setup it up completely fresh with my tablet. The routing function is working fine both wired and wireless. But I still can't access via my PC (ethernet connection) or laptop (wireless). I even took the router and hooked only my laptop to it with ethernet to one of the four output ports and 192.168.1.1 again failed as described above. If I do IPCONFIG the 192.168.1.1 is my default gateway.

The RT-N66U is running the latest firmware ...380.7266. I'm not sure since my head has been spinning but maybe I updated the firmware during the steps of trying to fix this. Just don't recall clearly.

I do see a yellow exclamation point on the Asus router interface though (going thru my tablet). It says "The WAN IP is not the external IP. External IP-based services will not work". This may be related to I have an AT&T Modem/Router upstream of the Asus but the AT&T device is in bridge mode and that setup has been fine for well over a year until I tried a new router.

Sorry for the long post..

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't think you AT&T device is still in Bridge mode. If it was the WAN IP address on the ASUS wouldn't be complaining. You could try setting up the ASUS on another IP range 192.168.2.1 for instance and see if you still have the same issues.

Thanks for your reply. You may be right on AT&T modem but it is at 192.168.0.254 while my Asus router is 192.168.1.1. Regardless, it worked perfectly for over a year but now has the issue I described above. Also, I should point out that I can access the AT&T modem/router and another router I just tested using my PC or laptop with no issues.

Just a thought. Could it be something screwed up in NVRAM? I read recently that you need to clear that with WPS (?) button after update. I didn't do that.
