Help with AC68U and "Acces Point" mode

X.Hubert

New Around Here
Hello,

I was previously using the Internet provider box (Free in France) and it was working without any issues. Then I needed to extend the wifi signal (N & AC) for many reasons. So I bought the AC68U because all technical criteria and options seems OK with my usage and future developments. And that's where it gets tricky.

I want to extend the Internet box wifi signal ... sorry, already said. So I plugged box and AC68U with ethernet cable, used parameters wizard and chose the Acces point mode. All goes well. I unplug everything, restart and connect to the new wifi signals to access the AC68U's window parameters.
Issue 1 : I have an issue message telling me "your parent connection seems not OK, ......."
Issue 2 : my computer is telling me my wifi signal is limited (2 meters between computer and the AC68U)

I am looking for an answer for the last month and I'm stuck. You're my last chance to understand where I'm wrong. Any thoughts ?

Big thanks to you for all your insights

In AP mode, you cannot unplug the LAN cable from the WAN (no internet that way).

You might want to try Repeater mode if you cannot permanently leave the LAN cable connected.

As L&LD said.

Review the paragraphs and accompanying drawings below each mode setting on the "Administration > Operation Mode" page for more details.

And the reason you unplugged the wired connection is? If you can't plug AC68 to your router than AP mode makes no sense. Acting as an AP means you have an wired connection and AC68 is an AP (aka - clients can connect to it and traffic is forwarded onto wired connection).
If you can't afford to have a wired connection to the AP, than the only option you have is to configure it as a repeater. And that means it will be a client for another AP/router and it will "increase" the signal for the clients not covered by the AP/router. But that comes with a significant price in performance - you will use the wireless capacity that repeater can get from AP/router plus there are very good chances for congesting the spectrum.
Repeaters are an option where very little speed is needed. Otherwise forget about this option.

Thanks everyone for your feedbacks. You're awesome.
It was my mistake when I created the message talking of "access point". I was using the repeater mode.
I redo settings from scratch and installed the last official firmware 3.0.0.4_380_1842. And now it's working ! :) I don't know why but I'm fine with that. I already made a settings backup.
@drabisan : I was not aware of the impact about wireless capacity. But I can't do another way today. I will take it into account in the next house.
