Hi, recently purchased Netgear r7800 to use as VPN client so that all local wired and wireless devices have VPN protection without having to use client software on each one, but was disappointed by degradation of speed. Rather than purchasing another router with faster CPU, I thought about using an existing windows 10 PC to connect it to VPN (via IKeV2 or openvpn), and tunnel all clients through it. Current setup is Netgear C6300 wireless router and multiple clients (tablets, android TV, etc) connected via wireless, desktop and server connected to ethernet.
Preferably, would like to use router's NAT to tunnel all WAN requests through server (ie client -> router -> server (VPN) -> WAN rather than the way it is now (client -> router -> wan), rather than having to play with software / settings on each client. Is the best way to do this is to set up server as vpn client (i.e connect it a service like nordvpn), then set up VPN-PPTP port forwarding in router to server, then connect all clients to that server? Or is there an easier way to make sure that any client that connects to the wireless router goes through the VPN server before reaching the WAN?
Thank you
