How do I setup an RT-AC87U as a remote?

SteveInEsc

New Around Here
My cable modem is connected to an RT-AC68U router.
I want to set up an RT-87U router as a satellite in another room to support a NAS and printer.

Can someone point me to info that will tell me how to do this?

THanks-
Steve

When you say remote/satellite I assume you would like to use the AC87u as an access point. There are ways to do this, the best way would be to run an Ethernet cable from the AC68 to the AC87 and set it as an access point.
If running a cable between the 2 is not an option you could connect the 2 using power line adapters.
Another option is to set up WDS and have the AC87 as a wireless repeater. The only downside is that I think it will half the speed of connected wireless devices.

Thank you for your response and suggestions. I read about WDS on Wikipedia but ended with more questions than when I started.

Maybe, instead of my suggesting a solution, I should state what I want to achieve first, and then hopefully you (or someone else) will suggest a solution.

I want to set-up Network Attached Storage in a room other than where my router (the AC68) is located.
I cannot run a network cable between the rooms
I also have a spare AC87 (sitting around unused) that possibly could be part of the solution.

My networking experience and knowledge is limited to setting up a single wireless router.

So any suggestions on how to connect the NAS would be appreciated.
I understand the option of power-line networking, but do not know if that is a good (best?) solution.

Note that there is a minor desire to also connect a printer that is in the room where the NAS will go.
Not being able to do this is not a deal breaker

Many thanks-
Steve
