How to pair Asus ZenWiFi BT6 to BQ16 Pro.

This is driving me insane, and I can't for the life of me figure this out. I picked up a set of BT6 to use wirelessly connected to my BQ16 Pro. I added the BT6 wired, and it works just great as part of the BQ16 Pro AiMesh system. As soon as I disconnect the BT6 from the BQ16 Pro (ethernet), I get a red light on the BT6, and it's no longer connected to the network. I've tried resetting the BT6 multiple times, and Asus support has no idea why this isn't working either.

Any clever people here have any ideas why this isn't working?

Setup is 3x BQ16 Pro, all connected via ethernet, and this one BT6 which is to be connected wirelessly.

To follow up, - I just unplugged one of my BQ16 Pro's ethernet cables, and it won't connect wirelessly either to the main unit. Not sure what setting would be overriding that functionality...

Fixed it. Disabling "Ethernet Backhaul Mode" fixed it. What a stupid name! It makes it sound like if you disable it then you get ONLY wireless backhaul, but that's not the case. If you disable it it means it will use ethernet backhaul by default, but it will fall back to wireless backhaul if no ethernet is present.

Sorry I missed this thread. I would have immediately asked about the Ethernet Backhaul Mode setting.

Actually Ethernet Backhaul Mode is good if all your nodes are wired, because with it off there will be dedicated bandwidth to connect backhaul wirelessly, (for the function of self-healing, ie if you disconnect ethernet WiFi backhaul is supposed to immediately take over).

Absolutely. But the toggle needs to be named differently and a better description provided because that’s just insane that it’s not more clear.

Whilst I have had more than my share of headaches with AiMesh, to be fair, there is a reasonably comprehensive ASUS FAQ on backhaul mode choices.

I gave up on the BT6. The range is hopeless compared to the BQ16 Pro, and it just lost signal as soon as I went into the garage with it and set it up there wirelessly. Picked up another BQ16 Pro, and have multi-gigabit connection in there with ease. So it goes...
