What I want to do is connect a rt-ac66u to the hot spot then use that as an internet connection instead of a usual wired connection to a modem.

The routers mac address is registered so it does not require login in.
I want to set the router to broadcast its own wifi ssid for clients to connect.
Set router to become the default gateway for network.

cant be done as when ythe router is in repeater mode its not acting as a router

you can however use the asus rt-ac68u im media bridge mode to connect to the hot spot and then connect a second wireiess router to it so the second router will act as your router and gateway

The problem is when connecting new clients it requires a login to hot spot in either mode.
Does Merlin's firmware support this?

Most travel routers can handle this easily - it's similar to the hotel situation, where one using a WIFi connection as the WAN, and then as it's own SSID to local clients... first client to attach to the router does the authentication to the Hotspot, and everyone else rides in for free...

Asus WL-330NUL does this very nicely... I'm sure there are others...
