Ideal ADSL modem for Asus RT-N56U

Hello,
Had a RT-N56U left over from a customer, so I'm going to use it as a replacement for a Linksys WAG325N which is almost kaput. What is the ideal standalone ADSL modem for this router.

I did buy a TP-Link TD-8616 but the router will not detected. I've tried every combo, but no joy. Both have the very latest firmware installed, so can't go down that track.

So i'm looking for a good solid ADSL modem that will go with it, and be auto detectable by the Asus.

Your ADSL modem must support bridged mode to work with a router. Make sure you did set your TP-Link in bridged mode before plugging it with the router.

Otherwise, I personally used a Speedtouch 516 for about a year (before moving to cablemodem), and that's also the product we sell to our own customers. Again, you have to make sure you set it in bridged mode first before plugging it to the router.

WellI'm using the TP 8816 with no problems , just plugged it in and it worked with the router . Getting better speeds with the TP than the zoom it replaced . Never got over 4.8 mb.with the old Zoom 4 modem , now getting a bit over 6 mb . For $16.00 it's the best modem I've had in the last 12 years

Yip, it’s supposed to support bridged mode, and is in bridged mode, but the router doesn’t see it. When I connected it, it found the ADSL sync in microseconds with a really good connection. So excellent wee modem. Tried setting the LAN base ip address higher than that on the router, and changing the router DHCP base address higher.

That’s the second time somebody has mentioned that wee modem as a good candidate. I think I’ll give it a try.

if it's bridged the you will will not see it , at least you won't by entering the ip , it is just a dumb bridge , nothing to adjust , nothing to see . So just plug it in and play , no setting up , unless it has been but in router firewall mode , then you'd have to change it back to bridge mode .
Really of the 4 modems I've tried this gives the best results , my son says even gaming is better with this modem , and I know for sure that I get almost 2mb faster line speed with this modem , plug in the old back to 4.2-4.8 mb . TP and back up to 5.9-6.1 mb

Hi,
Plugged in the TD-8816, setup my pppoa settings and plugged in the asus router and it found the WAN IP address in under 1 second. Compared to the 4 days I spent on Asus/TP-Link support trying to get 6816 work, it was a breeze.
