In a perfect world

What's the real world implications of seeing 1 Gbps WAN vs. 800 Mbps WAN? When I switched from 50 to 500 Mbps I didn't notice a single difference other than benchmarking.

It's a chain of events. The ISP offers you higher speed for only $10 more. You spend $250 for a new router to match. Your Internet use doesn't change much, but the ISP and router manufacturer get more money. You can show your speed tests to other people.
