I have a D-Link DNS-323.
Since my media server Netgear Neo 550 has a 10/100 port I thought sure its fast enough for movies.
I have used it for dvd movies and its great but blu rays not so good.
I tried it and I get stuttering at fast action scenes.
Is this old unit just to slow to use for movie playing?

the unit is plugged into a trendnet gigabit switch and so it the netgear.
for info in case the switch is plugged into a buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH with ww-drt .

ps why no consumer routers with 8 port switches???

The DNS-323 is pretty old. We tested it around 9 MB/s read, which is 72 Mbps. This should be fast enough for 1080p streaming. But there could be other factors that are preventing smooth streaming.

You don't see 8 ports on consumer routers because most people don't need that many and the market is very price sensitive. You can add a switch to expand ports.
