is their any use or validity to gaming routers

I need a new router and was reading about them comparing and such when I noticed a lot of talk about netduma and others things being offered. Is their any validity of these for gaming online?

I thought long and hard about the netduma.
Personally the hardwre put me right off....but now two netgear routers can use the firmware....
i stuck with merlin though as i know my way around skynet and the amazon ips and how to block them for fifa...
