Xenforo can be quite expensive tho, considering they said they want to avoid having ads on their site. But there are definitely better free alternatives, I agree. I think their platform doesn`t even offer DM support yet.

They do. PM person to person and a group private PM as well. Overall it is barebones though. A few people have started to leave already. Some say a Mod issue going on.

Anyway, not a fan of this dumbed down Reddit style of pagination. I had to deal with another forum that used the same software a few weeks ago, and tracking down specific posts in a long thread was a major PITA, as there was no pagination - just a timeline slider on the side.

Yep, there were a lot of complaints about the slider and no pagination but the owner preferred the slider so it stayed. I'm not a fan of the BB style as well and I think there were a few grumbles about the search feature not working within a thread.

I saw this as well. Seems that the powers to be have been reading all the negative comments about how the situation was handled.

Now it is working in read only mode, the first five minutes of each hour (subject to change). It's the oddest thing ever.
I just went at the top of the hour and was able to actually browse through the site. At six minutes after the hour it reverted back to the disclaimer message about the available time and only the main page shows.

The current rumors and speculation that I'm reading are saying it's Liquid Web that has it up and open for the five minute window. I'm not sure I buy that though. I still have hope it comes back fully online.

This is the weirdest, craziest website shutdown I have ever encountered, as far as memory serves. Down, up with vague message, up in read-only, but only for 5 minutes out of 60...

The only reason I can think of for that 5 minutes window would be the hoster switched to a very basic hosting plan, with hourly rollover bandwidth, which gets used up within the first five minutes.

At this point, I think the website should just be taken behind the shed, and shot in the head, to put it out of its misery.

I actually posted last night on there and this morning it was gone. Reposted it again and so far it’s stayed there all day. May disappear overnight. May have something to do with it read only most of the time. Some have had success sending DM / emails and it getting to people to let them know of that new BB site. Guess that still works briefly. I really gotta wonder if it’s Justin messing with people. If you can put the crazy message on the front page, why not put a real message explaining what happened and what the plan is for the future…..instead of the head games.

They should have used XenForo instead of whatever barebones software they're using.

Xenforo didn't even exist when dslrports started. In fact, it was probably just phpbb and vbulletin as platform choices.

Well, just found out about this after I tried to ping io.tv which I've been using for over a decade to test my net only to find it unable to resolve.. went to check my ISP's forums only to then find the site being rip.

The "5 minutes" thing also doesn't seem to be true anymore. Set an alarm for top of the hour, tried for 5 minutes, still no access anywhere but the index page.

If the image posted by ATLga isn't fake, then we seriously lost a 25 year community to some person's political meltdown?

I can't believe it.

Owner of sourceforge is willing to buy it but can't get in contact with Justin, and clearly won't ever since he doesn't want to be contacted either.

Never in my life thought the site would cease operations, especially not completely out of the blue, and with it not being able to be accessed anymore. So much history all gone in an instant.. so much archive.org hasn't archived, and a reliable community of people from your ISP all gone.

It's actually depressing.

I don't blame him. I have given up trying to help people online too. It's a lost cause. Too much separation of the wealthy/poor and the educated/stupid. There is not gateway or requirements for the power of the internet. People need a license to drive a car. Need one for Ham Radio. But not the internet? At least have some kind of lessons required. I think the fact that stupid/bad people now have the ability to collect, discuss and organize has turned the internet into a steaming pile of dog shirt. Either your a boomer who can't program his VCR or your a troll who is so young/dumb they don't even know what a phone cord is. All it is now is a system of monitoring and control designed to turn us into sheep and profit from it. It's not even political for me. People voting for Trump TWICE just broke my faith in humanity. I don't want to help human kind anymore. I say nuke the site from orbit. Only way to be sure.
