This may be petty but why did LGE use 'cdrom' to name the blue-ray drive in the N2B1* devices?

Has anyone found a way to at least change it to "DVD"?

LGE N2B1 Support - Samsung drives?

I have installed two 1TB Samsung HD103SI hard drives into our N2B1 NAS and they seem to be working ok, but I have seen an odd anomally.

Windows Vista shows the disk space used on NAS drive2 to be the same as NAS drive 1 - even though NAS drive 2 is in fact empty.

Has anyone seen this kind of thing?

LGE Support tell me that the problem might well be caused by incompatible hard drives and they say the that HD103SI drives are not on the N2B1 'supported' list.

I find it hard to understand why the HD103SI drives are not supported as they are very recent and very efficient drives.

Can anyone comment on this?

Are you sure you don't have it set up to mirror? It should be set to Raid 0 if you want a total of 2 TB

Blu-Ray over network

I know that my PC, and iMac will be able to connect to the Blu-Ray Drive over the network..
But can it author a Blu-Ray disc over the network

Specifically - I have my wedding video which was filmed in HD on my iMac.

Now - obviously I can stream the HD version round the house
And I've created a nice DVD, which plays in standard DVD players (i.e. with menus etc, not a data dvd) - but DVD does the quality of the source video no good

So I would love to be able to author a Blu-Ray version (again not just simply storing a large video file on the disc, I could do this direct from the NAS to the drive)

Essentially adding a Blu-Ray recorder to my iMac; and basically becoming a fantastic piece of equipment with hundreds of great uses.

Time Machine backups

just an fyi:

The reviewer says to use to MAC address found under Network Preferences, but this didn't work for me (only took me 3 or 4 hrs to pinpoint).

It actually mounted and Time Machine saw it using this address but for some reason I kept getting an error '45' when TM tried to backup.

I had to use the MAC Address found by clicking the Apple logo in the top left ->About This Mac -> More Info -> Then click directly on the "Network" category and in the right window of "Active Services" click on "Ethernet"

From there I found a MAC address that did not correspond to the Airport ID. This is the one I had to appease Time Machine.

I'm on a MacbookPro6,2 running SL 10.6.3

How are other people liking their unit?

I'm quite interested (despite avg performance) since it has a blue-ray and the price has started to come down.

eSATA disk support bug/feature on the LG NAS unit?

I have added an additional eSATA disk 1TB of additional storage to the LG NAS unit, but it do not appear in the WEB menu for admin or users!

It's the disc that was shipped with the unit in en external eSATA box, i replaced the internal disks with Samsung F3 (1TB) disks and there is no problem with those at all...

Is there any special file system formatting/initialization that is needed to be performed of the eSATA disk unit? How? (/dev/sdc)

The disk should be possible to see in the menu “Information -> Status -> e-SATA” but it says “No e-SATA device is connected.” All the time!

If I check the log files, the eSATA disk is recognized by the system and it seems like it’s available in the log file but maybe it goes wrong here… "Maybe a Bug / Feature to be corrected"

This is the part in the log file, where the eSATA disk is identified, but that is all.....
(Firmware 2504 is used.)

The docs for this unit state that it supports up 2Tb. I'm guessing that's because that was all that was available when it first shipped.

The question is, will it work if I put in 2 x 2Tb disks?

I have connected 2 x 2 TB Seagate Barracuda ST32000542AS in RAID 1.

I am using an unofficial modified firmware: 1.0.0_2569t which I downloaded from here:
"lg.threnor.de/en:start"

No problems so far.

esata works but really slow, I tried connecting an esata dock with a Kingston SSD but it wouldn't go above 12mb/s which is pretty pathetic

giganet won't go above 32mb/s when reading from nas and writing to raid 0 on my pc (usually writes at 200mb/s; won't go above 18mb/s when writing to nas

there is a way : iSCSI ODD

there is a function named "iSCSI ODD."
you can set Blu-ray drive in NAS as iSCSI Target storage.
and you can access from PC or Mac with iSCSI initiator.
Probably there is a bundled burning software in the package, which is tested.
