Looking for a strong router with Transmission (and ownCloud) support

My RT-AC68U just got its USB ports fried, so I need to replace it very soon but can't decide what with. Of course I need good routing and wireless performance, and for this I can look at the router ranks, but the routers that rank best have low to extremely storage performance, which is important for me as I want to continue using Transmission, Samba and DLNA on it, and maybe add an ownCloud server (which the RT-AC56U was not able to run properly, I think because of not enough RAM and/or CPU power). On the other hand I see Linksys routers have strong storage performance, but they rank poorly in the routing and/or wireless department. I would probably need to find a balance, but haven't been able to spot it yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Additional info: I have a 2 storey house (the RT-AC56U barely managed to cover it to my satisfaction, so I would need a stronger WiFi signal) and a 500/250 Mbps connection (for now, maybe I could get Gigabit in a couple of years). And I would prefer not to pay over $200 for the router, I don't think I need 802.11ad or gimmicks like MU-MIMO yet, my main PC is on a wired connection and normal n+ac WiFi seems to be enough for my laptop, tablet, phones, TV, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe it's enough tojust buy 1 or 2 APs that cover the house and a low price wifi router, instead of a BHR!?

I would investigate the need to add an AP if the router is not powerful enough, although I would prefer not to (the wiring in the house is a mess, I would need an AP with Gigabit LAN port or a switch to make everything work). On the other hand I don't think cheap routers have decent storage performance, so I'd loose here too.

The best options I found at the moment are Linksys models like EA8500 or WRT1900ACS, they have good CPU and memory (maybe even good enough for ownCloud), fast storage throughput, but seem to be lacking in the routing and wireless departments, which is a shame.

ASUS RT-AC68U or the Netgear R7000 is still a good buy and better choice.

The RT-AC68U has very low storage performance, absolutely not what I need. I would look at dishing out a little more and getting the RT-AC3200 instead.

The RT3200 uses the same CPU as the 68U, it’s almost like an AC68U with an extra 5Ghz band.

The WRT1900 is known to have very good Read/Write speeds.

You might be right, it seems the only review claiming the AC68U has very low storage performance (and the only one I checked) is the one on SNB, all the other ones got quite decent results. Just ordered one, should arrive next week.
Thank you all for your suggestions!

L.E. Just noticed the last 2 post were about the 86U and not 68U. It looks interesting, but does not have enough reviews to make sure it's worth the money (it's over $280 on Amazon Europe sites), so I'll stick to the 68U for now.
