My old Asus rt-ac56u has passed on to the great beyond. I'd like to replace it with something faster with (hopefully) a much wider range. The RT-ac56u had a feature that allowed it to failover from a cable modem to an Android phone via USB as the internet source. This has been very useful in the past and would very much like to have this feature on the new router. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

All popular models, but you have to take your chances with reliability and compatibility with your phone. Dual WAN reliability in Asuswrt is bad and you may find your mobile plan drained because the router didn't fail back when the main WAN was restored. May or may not work in acceptable way for you.

Attempt to fix, but I had no chance to test it yet:
