New Around Here
Hello,
I am new to SmallNetBuilder and looking for some advice on how to get stronger WiFi signals in certain areas of my house.
I am using a D-LINK DIR-655 router which is not able to give me the WiFi coverage that I need in certain areas of my house. I live in an older house that has plaster walls with metal / tin meshing in between the walls.
I have purchased a TP-LINK Antenna Extension Cable and placed a 9db antenna on it and still no improvement. I recently purchased a DLINK Powerline kit (DHP-501AV) that seems to solve the problem for one of my devices (blu-ray player) that required internet access but I still have a need to expand this network further.
I thought of hooking up a router (have D-LINK DI-624 and GIGAFAST WF719-CAPR) that I was hoping to use as an access point connected to the 2nd DHP-501AV powerline device.
I wasn't having any luck configuring the D-LINK DI-624 ( read in another forum to disable DHCP on the DI-624) and this would allow it to work as an Access Point. It may be something that I did that I couldn't get this to work or maybe the D-LINK DI-624 wont operate as an Access Point (as per D-LINK's tech support)?
I have not attempted the GIGAFAST WF719-CAPR router as I'm thinking that may not work either.
OPTION 1
Does anyone have any recommendations or steps to take to configure this configuration?
OPTION 2
I may just purchase addtional Powerline devices. Anyone know if you can mix brands eg. D-link DHP-501AV 500mbps and TRENDnet TPL-401E2K 500MBS Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit and will this work or do I have to stick with one particular brand?
OPTION 3
Purchase an Access Point (recommendations?)
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
