Lost Files

New Around Here
Hi

I have a NAS with two drives set as raid. The drives were using the EXT3 file system.

Last week a drive failed and I was no longer able to access any data. I removed the faulty drive but all I got was a message saying new drive installed please format. I have tried fitting a new drive but still get the same result.

Is there some way I can access the drive and recover the files? I have tried connecting to my Win XP pc but the drive is seen but I can not access it

Thanks for your help

RAID0 or RAID1?

RAID0 or RAID1?
Thank you for your replies, first the unit is a Giganet dual drive and it is Rais 1. The manual suggests replacing the faulty drive and the system will be rebuilt but this did not happen. I think I now need to find a way to recover the files off the remaining good drive

If it's RAID1, then you should be able to see all the files on the one drive. Step one is to BACKUP to an external drive. Once done, worry about getting the second drive replaced.

A RAID1 should run OK with just one drive operable.
