Asuswrt-Merlin
==============

About
-----
Asuswrt is the name of the firmware Asus has developed for
their various router models. Originally forked from Tomato,
it has since grown into a very different product, removing
some more technical features that were part of Tomato, but
also adding a lot of new original features.

Asuswrt-merlin is a customized version of Asus's firmware. The goal is
to provide bugfixes and minor enhancements to Asus's firmware, with also
a few occasional feature additions. This is done while retaining
the look and feel of the original firmware, and also ensuring that
the two codebases remain close enough so it will remain possible
to keep up with any new features brought by Asus in the original firmware.

This project's goal is NOT to develop yet another firmware filled with
many features that are rarely used by home users - that is already covered
by other excellent projects such as Tomato or DD-WRT.

This more conservative approach will also help ensuring the highest
level of stability possible. Priority is given to stability over
performance, and performance over features.

I have checked the readme_file from the AX56u firmware, it said no longer supported the AX56u, but I can see the download from the sourceforge page.
Is it still available for my router?

(EDIT) What router should I choose since it is EOL? How can I check my next router is not reaching its endurance?

this is my current configuration, is it still SAFE to update?

there were 2 versions of this router therefore good that you add screen showoing you have RMerlin on it :)

yes you can download the latest available firmware. RMerlin just stopped support for you router.

you should be ok for same time if this router is sufficient. you can wait until more wi-fi 7 router will be available.

If everything works fine, I think you can safely use it for another year or 2 or more.
3004.388.6 (20-Jan-2024)
- NOTE: Since Asus provided GPL code for the RT-AX56U, this model will exceptionally be included with this release, despite still being considered being end-of-life.

This was a onetime exception by Asus.

The model is still EOL.

In less than six months (or when the next vulnerability is discovered), this model is officially obsolete.

You may safely use it until the next vulnerability has surfaced.

So you're saying that RT-AX68U is already officially obsolete? ;)

I would say: You may safely use it until a security vulnerability is discovered.
This applies to all routers, not just this one ;)

No, I didn't. I don't use stock firmware. I also explicitly stated

You may safely use it until the next vulnerability has surfaced.
