New Around Here
Hello all.
Just upgraded to ASUS RT-N66U router and flashed Asuswrt-Merlin. Thanks!
I'm hoping for some input on this situation:
I've plugged my new router into my previous home network as follows...
I. Cable modem
II. Netgear router running TomatoUSB 192.168.1.2
A. Linux headless box running rtorrent with openssh VPN
B. DVR
C. ASUS router
1. My internal network via NAT
D. The Netgear router has optware installed.
Noteably the Netgear's WAN is the internet NIC from my ISP. The linux box, DVR and ASUS router get IP's in the 192.168.1.X range. The ASUS with a WAN IP of 192.168.1.x contains my home network which is in the range of 192.168.2.x.
From an internally connected computer I'm able to access all machines within the internal network, plus the rutorrent webserver on the linux box.
Rationale for this multiple NAT environment is keeping the linux box out of my internal NAT.
ASUS and AiCloud/DDNS complains about the multiple NAT environment. Is this setup really providing more security, having the linux machine outside of the private NAT? The disclaimer of the DMZ setup worries me that it creates a possible security problem so I have not used that option.
If you are still reading to this point thank you.
