Mutli Site VPN with Asus RT-N66U?

New Around Here
Hi Folks,

A friend wants me to swap his routers out at his two offices and home, I'm doing this for free as he's a life long buddy and he's done me favours the past :)

He wanted to be able to do site to site VPN between offices and his home. Office 1 will the the "main" office. He wouldn't need to go from home to office 2, but I'm guessing if the VPN is up he would be able to do this anyway. Sort of like this:

Office2<---VPN--->Office1<---VPN--->Home

Can anyone tell me if I put a Asus RT-N66U at each site, will this work with the default firmware? I've found it hard to find the information out in the product literature, but I think each RT-N66U can act as a VPN server and a client, and can assign up to 10 different sites.

I need to be sure before I recommend him to buy them though!

Thank you very much for the help!

The stock firmware only has a PPTP server. It has no VPN technology that would allow a site-to-site VPN.

Ah, thanks for this.

I'll recommend a DreyTek 2830N and a DreyTek 2710N in that case, unless anyone can point me to some other equipment that might do the job.

FWIW: Multi site to site VPN would be achievable using Merlin's or Shibby's firmware flashed on the RT-N66U via OpenVPN without the need of additional hardware.

On my site to site OpenVPN link using a TAP connection, whatever is plugged into any of the LAN ports or connected wirelessly into the remote wireless router appears as if it is connected to my local wireless router! As long as the OpenVPN tunnel is open, no additional firewall settings are required to Remote Desktop, windows file share, ect. to/from remote location....
