Hi all.
I have just replace my WZR-HP-AG300H with the N66U and I have to say I am really disappointed.
I upgraded due to the 300H is only 300MB (On a good day) on wireless and I needed to get the extra 450MB out of it + all of the good reviews looked like this would be a good upgrade.
I have the following setup
BT FTTC Modem (Getting 59down / 10up)
into
N66U
On the LAN I have a ds413j NAS box (1Gbit)
On wireless I have
5GHz
Desktop - TP-Link TL-WDN4800 - Running 450Mb
2.4GHz
2 Android Phone
1 Roku
2 Sky Boxes
1 Laptop
1 LG Smart TV
1 Kindle Fire
1 Kindle paperwhite
All of the about is running a approx. 150MB to 50MB
On my desktop I run plex - the media is on the ds413j.
With the 300H - I could run full HD to the roku box over the wireless - It worked good. Would take approx 5 sec to warm up.
With the N66U - I get stuttering within 10 secs on any content to the roku now. However, I get good speed from desktop to ds413j (SMB file copying of 10MB/s with the 300H - last night I got 25MB/s)
I am asking to much of the box? I know the CPU on the 300H is slightly better. What would be the best firmware to run on the N66U to get back to where I was?. I was running stock on the 300H (a modded version of DD-WRT) or is the box just not up to it.
Also, I am find that my internet is slower to bring up pages - I use openDNS for DNS and downloading speeds on the desktop for files is good (Max approx 7.1MB in firefox) I used openDNS on the 300H as well.
I have tried so many different firmware's on the N66U I have lost track - I have DDWRT on it at the moment (Dated 11/01/2014) to try and I gave up last night and went to bed.
I am only running DDNS as a service on the N66U. No USB or printers
Can anyone point me in the right direction please. I really want to keep this router, but the slow internet and the roku box now not working, I feel I might have to go back to the 300H
I really don't want to take the box back as the speed increase on the SMB is great
Thanks all
