New Around Here
Hello guys,
I'm looking to build my own NAS system because built-in solution are not good enough from what I've seen online.
My goal is to have something powerful, speedy, silent, low consumption energy, and extensible.
I want at least 2TB only for DVD/DivX (4 to 6TB in the future).
Want something pretty easy to play with (media server add-on or something similar would be nice - DLNA compatible too
)
I'm gonna need time machine (2-3 (i)Mac and only one backup for all of them, possible?) too.
I also know that even though I want something very fast, without the best network equipment, it's not going to work. I have gigabyte router, FreeNas will be on USB 3.0 key connected 24/7 to my NAS. I don't know yet if the NAS will be connected directly to my main computer, that would be useful but I was hoping to connect it on my TV or router (both ?!)
I want at least 6 bays in order to upgrade easily in the future.
Here are the items I've chosen so far:
Case: Lian Li PC-Q25B Mini-ITX Cube - Alu (big, stylish, cost-efficient)
Motherboard: ASUS E45M1-I Deluxe, AMD Zacate E-450 (2x 1.65GHz), AMD A50M
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 (2x4GO)
HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL Caviar Green WD20EARX, 2.0TB, Bulk (3x)
PSU: BE QUIET! Pure Power L7, 300 Watts or ENERMAX Liberty ECO II, 400 Watts (ELT400AWT-ECO II) (both are 80 PLUS)
I think Raid 5 is good (need 3 drives to do so). Heard Raid 10 is faster but Raid 5 gives more storage.
What do you think overall speaking? It might be overkill for my needs...
