Need a simple solution for backup/media

New Around Here
Lost Computer this weekend, salvaged hard drives though.
I want to purchase a NAS for the three computers I have in house.
First for back up of home business/personal backup.
Second to store all my music to stream to other places in house.
Looked at Synology 211j and others; black Armour, Netgear
But don't want to over spend; and I have limited network exp.
I am looking toward your experience for suggestion to get what I need.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Read through How To Buy a NAS - The Short(er) Version then hit the NAS Charts.

If you just want to see what others are buying and considering, check here.

Synology, QNAP, NETGEAR are generally high price and high performance and have many more features than you need.

Most any NAS will do what you want. The main consideration is what you use to "stream" your music.

Thanks Tim-
Stream media is mainly two devices
1) Control 4 box in main room
2) Music computer , the external drive that all music is stored is on a external drive via a usb port connected to my netgear 3700 router. The media player on that computer is slow, itunes takes forever to find the music and play it.

Thus i thought a networked media player/storage would be best esp to the fact if not most importantly i can back up to it.
As with everyone cost is a factor now a days.
Again thanks for your help & a great site for research.

The main issue for streaming is whether your devices need a UPnP/DLNA server to work. If they can browse to a networked share and play from that, then you can use any NAS.

If they need a UPnP/DLNA server, most NASes today have them. Just check the NAS Finder.
