Netflix and ATV Connection

I have an ATV 3g and a Synology router. The router is located in the next room. I am using Wifi. Recently, I tried to watch a movie on Netflix. I started to watch the movie and within about 20 minutes, the movie started to buffer. I expect this type of behavior on Kodi and Amazon Fire Stick but I didn't expect it on ATV. The reason I didn't expect it, ATV has better hardware than Fire Stick. I stopped Netflix and restarted the ATV. Netflix appeared to be very slow and I was not able to finish the movie. Very disappointing and frustrating. I understand I was using Wifi which may cause some buffering issues. I would prefer a wired connection but for now I have to use Wifi. I don't experience any streaming issues on my iPad Mini 2.

I read somewhere that you can static the ATVs to help reduce buffering and improve the streaming. I don't know if it helps ATVs with buffering and streaming. I am not sure if I should static the ATVs or leave them alone.

I am not sure if it is a Netflix issue or poor wifi connection. Again, it sucks when you start a movie it buffers and continues then buffers then continues. I know this is not a forum for Amazon Fire Sticks or Kodi but I gave up on AFS because of buffering and streaming issues. I had way too many problems with the Fire Stick. I know that wired is the better choice and stable connection when it comes to streaming.

Since a wired connection is not feasible, I want to improve the streaming so I reduce buffering issues when I watch Netflix movies on the ATV 3g. Normally, I don't have any issues with the wifi signal. I can watch Youtube videos just fine on my iPad.

Is your iPad in the exact same spot as the ATV? Are you on 2.4GHz or 5GHz with each device? Lots of variables with WiFi that must be accounted for while troubleshooting. I have no idea what you mean by "static" the ATV. Are you referring to assigning a static IP? If so, that should have absolutely no impact on anything at all.

I have random issues with Netflix at my house from time to time. Just certain devices refuse to work sometimes. Our main TV has built-in Netflix, AppleTV, and a FireStick attached to it. There are nights that I have to jump around the devices to finish a movie. The TV and ATV are hard-wired so it isn't even a WiFi issue...just the wonderful fun of the Internet and streaming.

Yes, the iPad and ATV are in the same room. I am on 2.4 for both devices. Yes, I do mean static IP. I wasn't sure if assigning the ATV a static IP bears any difference or not. I didn't think so. Again, if I could wire the ATV I would but right now it is not an option.

The Netflix client on ATV3 is kinda done... unlike ATV4, it's part of the OS, and I'm assuming you're current there. With ATV4, Netflix is an app, and is updated similar to iPhone/iPad...

Netflix does use CDN's to deliver content, so in some ways, it depends on your local DNS set in your router - if you're using the local ISP, shouldn't be a problem, but sometime there is... If using a public DNS like OpenDNS/GoogleDNS, etc... give this a try and go back to your ISP's DNS - shouldn't make a different, but might...

Last thought here - Netflix has been playing around with the user agent strings (client side) and delivering streams that work for the most part, and perhaps this is something with the the ATV3 embedded client not sending the correct UA strings there...

FWIW - I'm assuming there's no VPN stuff in play here...
