Netgear EX6150 still a good buy?

New Around Here
Looking at getting my first wireless extender, and came across the reviews here on this site.

I've been struggling to decide between the Netgear EX6150 and the Linksys RE6700.

Not looking to spend too much, will only be needed temporarily. The EX6150 is currently £45, whereas the RE6700 is £60, so drawn towards the EX6150 but don't want to have any regrets.

Is the Netgear still the best buy now in 2016? Or is there something new that has replaced it for similar price?

Any help much appreciated, thanks!

P.S. I do have a set of powerline adapters. Would it be sensible to use them in conjunction with the wireless extender? So as in have the extender taking in the wifi signal and then have it wired from the extender straight into the powerline adapter to send it through the mains. Is that even possible?

If so, and that is a sensible idea, does that change which extender I should go for at all?

My situation (in-case it helps or other options available):

About to move into a rented accommodation, and unfortunately being messed around by the estate agents in terms of internet. Turns out as their office is below our house, they're expecting us to use the wifi signal from the router in their office as them supplying us internet access. Currently trying to complain but doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Not even sure if it's possible to install a router upstairs where we live.

As you can expect, signal to the upper rooms is awful, so desperately trying to figure out a way to make this next year bearable and have a somewhat alright connection.

certainly better than using any extender

if you use the power line adapters you only then need a wireless access point or wireless router in ap mode or wan bypass mode connected to the powerline , extenders and repeaters are only used where you dont have ether ethernet or powerline to connect back to as they use wireless to connect back to the main router

Not sure if I explained it correctly, or a slight misunderstanding on my part or. I'm going to have to connect to the base router wirelessly no matter what, as it's quite literally in a separate building.

So I was thinking of using the extender to take in the wifi connection in a spot closest to the router, and then send that connection from the extender into my powerline adapter, which will then exit in my room giving me a wired connection to the extender.

This make sense?

lol sort of but it sounds like a train crash waiting to happen

why is it you cant get your own internet connection to the flat ? as piggybacking of the real estate down stairs just aint going to give you anything but grief

why the real estate would allow you on their network in the first place is beyond me

so is there no way to have ethernet run from their router ?

also where would you located the repeater if the signal to all rooms upstairs is bad as its no good extending a bad signal as you just end up with twice as bad a signal

It's a rented house that's above their office. The internet is included in the rent.

I haven't actually moved in but I visited the house to drop stuff off knowing this situation, and was looking around the house for phone line connections but couldn't see any at all in the house. This seems odd to me, and there were a few sockets covered over so couldnt tell what was behind them, but no sign of one.

It baffles me too if it actually is their office internet, although it may be a separate contract and router just to be used for our house. Won't know the specifics til monday when I move in, but wanted to be as prepared as possible before hand.

The access to the house is completely separate to that of their office, so no way to run a cable unless they got someone in to do some wall stuff. Very much doubt they'll be willing to do anything like that.

The signal isn't too bad in the downstairs part of the house like the kitchen and living room, but upstairs in the bedrooms its not good at all as expected 2 stories above the router.

This would be optimal for the situation you'd be in. Just be sure to treat the incoming Internet like it's an ISP and connect it to your router's wan port. This way, the office can't see your files (although if they don't have you on a vlan or something, you can possibly see theirs).

Are there any other wires from the office to your unit? Coax? Telephone? There's ways to get Internet over those too...
